  2.

  4.

Plenty of Time Spent with the Doctor

  5.

Truly Loving Care

In holistic private practice since 1994, Dr. Reiss engages her patients' own powerful self-healing abilities through a close, personal therapeutic relationship.  Treating all ages and all medical concerns, she guides her patients back to balance and health – in body, mind, & sprit.

What is Osteopathy?

If you get a deep cut in your finger, the doctor will disinfect, close, and bandage the wound.  In a week the cut is mended.  Did the doctor heal you?  Actually, no.  Your own body did.  But the physician assisted – by setting the stage and removing obstacles that might interfere with your body's repair processes.  In much the same way but on a larger scale, a physician who practices traditional Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) removes the impediments to normal body functions and corrects the physical abnormalities that cause pain, disease, and inhibit recovery.  This allows your own innate healing abilities to come forth and restore you naturally to optimal health.

Doctors of Osteopathy (D.O.s) are fully-trained physicians licensed to practice all phases of medicine, including prescribing drugs and performing surgery.  With added training in the musculoskeletal system, D.O.s also understand how all the body's systems are fully interconnected, and why a disturbance in one area may impact functions elsewhere.

While most D.O.s today offer the same conventional western medicine as M.D.s, some still practice traditional OMM.  These Osteopaths can locate small irregularities in the anatomy – interruptions in movement and flow that arise from everyday physical and emotional injuries – by touch.  They then apply gentle respectful manipulation wherever needed over the entire body (bones, muscles, organs, and all connective tissues) to restore proper structure.  By removing restrictions to full motion and by releasing old traumas locked inside the body,  the circulation of vital fluids is improved.  This brings back to ailing areas the body’s own unerring healing forces.

A special form of OMM, Cranial Osteopathy, also allows the physician to engage and balance the primary rhythm within the central nervous system, giving further aid to all body functions.

What does Dr. Reiss offer?

In addition to OMM and Cranial Osteopathy, Dr. Reiss offers nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle guidance to speed recovery and for long-term health maintenance.  She also recommends safe and effective supplements.  With a strong emphasis on listening, Dr. Reiss gives each patient the focused attention and dedicated time to fully explore his or her physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

By using Osteopathic manipulation, nutrition and exercise counseling, stress management, and by applying the Principles of the American Holistic Medicine Association, which recognizes unconditional love as life’s greatest healer, Dr. Reiss can help relieve pain, speed recovery, improve mobility, increase vitality, prevent disease, reduce the need for surgery or other intrusive therapies, and improve your overall quality of living.

Who is Dr. Reiss?

Dr. Reiss earned her D.O. degree in 1983 at the NY College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury.  She interned at Massapequa General Hospital and completed her residency at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ, after which she became Board Certified in Family Practice.  Dr. Reiss was an Emergency Room Physician at Massapequa General for eight years and served as its Director for six.  Seeking to offer a more prevention-oriented approach to healthcare, she entered into private practice.

Now specializing in traditional Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Reiss integrates the science of western medicine with the healing wisdom of alternative therapies.  She looks with the trained eye of a physician at the whole person – instead of merely treating symptoms – and seeks to address the true underlying cause of dysfunction.  Dr. Reiss also educates her patients as to how they can better participate in their own healing process.  In keeping with the ongoing expansion of her training, Dr. Reiss earned her Board Certification in Sports Medicine in 1999, became a Founding Diplomate of the American Board of Holistic Medicine the following year, and in 2005 gained her Boards in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine & Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (NMM-OMM).
